Transcription of the Popely/Appleyard Deed (1583)
This indenture made the xvijth day of June in the xxviith yere of the Reygne of oure Soveraygne Ladie Elizabeth by the grace of god quene of ynglande frannce & yrelande defender of the faith &c Bytwixt Robert popeley of popeley in the Countie of yorke gent of that one ptie And Robert appleyerd & George appleyerd of gildsum in the Sayde Countie of that other ptie Wytnessth that the Sayde Robert popeley hath gyvyn granntid & Confirmyd to the Sayde Robert & George appleyerd his two lands of meddo in the yng felde of gildsum aforesayde as they lye nowe at the east syde of the lands of the Sayde Robert appleyerd [& George appleyerd] in the neyther Syde of the Sayde yng felde nere unto the Same there late made by Rodger Strynger To have & to houlde the Sayde two lands to the Sayde Robert appleyerd & George appleyerd & to theyre heyrs & assignes of the Sayde George for evr in exchange for theyre two lands hereaft by them gyvyn to the sayde Robert popeley And in lyke maner the Sayde Robert appleyerde & George appleyerd

Transcription of the Greathead Document (1716)
Indenture made the twenty fifth day of December in the third year of the reign of our Sovereign Lord George by the Grace of God of Grt Brittain France and Ireland King defender of the Faith And in the year of our Lord 1716 BETWEEN Thomas Fawley of Adwalton in the County of York Yeoman and Martha his wife of the one part and Susannah Greathead of Gildersome in the sd County spinster on the other part WITNESSETH that the sd Thomas Fawley & Martha his wife for & in consideration of the sum of Five shillings of Lawfull money of Grt Brittain to him the sd Thos Fawley well and truly satisfied & paid by the sd Susannah Greathead at and before the ensealing & delivery of these presents the receipt whereof the sd Thos Fawley doth hereby acknowledge satisfaction & full payment & therefore every part and parcel thereof doth clearly acquit & discharge the sd Susannah Greathead her heirs executors & Admins.& for divers other good causes and considerations then the sd Thos Fawley & Martha his wife thereto moveing HAVE demised granted bargained and sold & by these presents do demise grant bargain and sell unto the sd Susannah Greathead her executors Admins and Assigns ALL that messuage or tenement & one Laithe or Barn one Orchard and one garden to the same messuage or tenement belonging or appertaining or therewith used occupied & enjoyed situate & lying & being in Adwalton aforesaid & also all those three several closes of land Arable Meadow or Pasture ground to the same ALSO belonging called or known by the several names of the Five Crofts containing by estimation five acres and the Great Ing now or late divided by a quickset edge into five closes containing by estimation six acres be the same more or less or by what other name or names the same were or are called as now with their and every of their rights encumbers appurtenances situate lying and being in Adwalton aforesaid and Drighlington in the sd County of York and are now in the tenure possession or occupation of him the sd Thos Fawley AND also all and singular houses outhouses barns buildings and ways passages waters waterways courses of hedges hedgerows fences ditches mines quarries commons common of pasture Furbury Timber trees easments commodities profit advantages hereditaments & appurtenances whatsoever to the same or any part or parcel thereof belonging or in any ways appertaining To have and to hold these mentioned and demised possessions & every part and parcel with their appurtenances unto the sd Susannah Greathead her Exectrs Admins & Assigns for during & until the full end and term of one whole year from the day of the date thereof to the intent and purpose and for the better to enable her the sd Susannah Greathead by force and virtue of these presents and of the statute transferring of use into possession to accept of a grant release or conveyance of the fee simple and inheritance of all & singular the presents in such sort manner & form & to such use intent & purpose as by the sd grant release or conveyance as shall be mentioned specified declared verifying AND Waving therefor one Red Rose in the Fines of Roses if the same shall be lawfully demanded of her the sd Susannah Greathead her Execs Heirs and Assigns in witness whereof the parties in these presents have interchangeably put their hands and hearts.
